Data

For a full interactive walkthrough of our implementation process, including Hubspot, CMS implementation and creating your data attributes, go here. You can follow along.

Setup > Data

The Data module is where you come to set up two key components of the Demand-Genius platform, the user Attributes and the Questions that will populate the dynamic forms.

1. The User Attributes are the data elements that you will collect from your website users over time. You don’t need to create all of them in one go, as you can come back to this page to create more Attributes as and when you need to. The attributes that you create here will also be Synchronised to integrate with Hubspot as and when a user completes a data capture form. (Note: You should ensure all attributes are mapped to the correct Hubspot field. This can be configured in the Integrations tab).

2. The Questions that are configured are the natural language questions that will be presented to your website users when they engage with your data capture forms, designed to create a more personal feel. A Question is mapped to one of the data Attributes that you have already created.

Attributes

To create your first user Attributes, Within the Demand-Genius console, navigate to Align > Data and select the Attribute toggle at the top of the page.

Enter the name of the Attribute, in this example we are using the Attribute First Name, and then select the Data Type for the new Attribute and click ‘Add User Attribute’. For the First Name attribute we are using the ‘Single-line Text’ data type.

Email Address

Out of the box, Email address is already configured and will be the first question asked on a form for anonymous users. The reason is that a user can not become ‘Known’ without first having their primary email address and therefore needs to be asked and submitted by a user on their first form submission. This email is used as a unique identifier to authenticate users on future visits, preventing the need for repetitive forms.

Data Types

There are several data types to choose from and it’s important that you choose the correct type for the data you are going to collect from your users.

Data Type

Description

Single-Line Text

Store a single string of any alphanumeric characters. This could be a single word, a phase or a sentence. For example, First Name, Company, City.

Multi-line Text

Stores multiple strings of alphanumeric characters such as a list of items or a paragraph. For example, Bio, Company Overview.

Phone Number

Stores the user's phone number. On the form, the user can select the country code or start typing their number to have the country code automatically select.

Date

Stores a date value. On the form, the user will be presented with a date picker to select the date to enter.

Number

Stores a string of numbers or numerals written in decimal format. For example, Age, Salary.

Email

Stores a valid email address

Single Checkbox

Stores only two options either on or off / yes or no. For example, Marketing Opt-in, Budget Holder. On the form this is presented as a switch select.

Multiple Checkboxes

Stores one or more options. For example Top 3 Considerations (to be selected from a list of 12). On the form these are presented as select boxes.

Radio Select

Stores a single option, where only one option can be selected by the user as a value. For example, Number of Employees, Turnover. On the form the options are presented as radio selects.

Dropdown Select

Stores multiple options, where only one option can be selected by the user as a value. For example, Company Revenue, Salary Range, Budget Range, Salutation. On the form this is presented as a drop down select field.

Updating an Attribute

1. Select the edit icon for the attribute you would like to update.

2. Make changes to the Attribute Title as required.

Questions

To create new Questions that can be incorporated into dynamic forms on your website, navigate to Setup > Data and select the Questions toggle at the top of the page.

Enter the Question you would like to ask and select the Attribute that the answer to the question maps to. For example, ‘What is your Company Name?’ would map to the Company Attribute.

You can create more than one Question that maps to the same attribute. In the example screenshot we have ‘Company Name’ and ‘What is your Company Name?’ being created. Each question can be deployed in forms at different points in the buyer journey and allows you flexibility in the tone and voice used in your forms.
